I wanted to share the amazing story about the 2Foot parents I adopted, Nicole and Dean. They have an inspiring story of love, dedication, commitment and patience. Their love and strength saw them persevere through many challenges to bring them to the life they have today. It was all part of the journey to bring them together so that they could adopt ME!!!!
In June 2008, a random chance connection united two 2Foot, human souls on two different continents. My Mumma got a request for a Facebook application called ‘Hot, Cute or OK’. She clicked on it and saw that it was a kind of dating app. It wasn’t really her sort of thing but something gave her a nudge and told her to stick with it, so she did. She browsed through endless profiles of guys. When she saw the photo of this blonde, gorgeous, tanned man wearing sunglasses in the USA, just a mere 4000 or so miles from the UK, she got another nudge, so she clicked on the ‘HOT’ button and then forgot about it and carried on with her day.
A few hours later this attractive man replied, and before they knew it they were engaged in conversation on MSN messenger. They would both be typing away and would press the send button…… to find the same messages appearing on the screen. They had such a strong, intuitive connection that they were thinking alike even though they barely knew each other.
Mumma says that Dadda was ‘talking in riddles’ but he made her laugh. He told her that his life was full of challenges but he approached them with a positive attitude and determination. He said that he was 4 foot 8 sat down and made various other quirky comments. Mumma has always been a little reticent, so she didn’t want to intrude by asking too many questions, but she did ask one very important question even though she thought it was a joke. She asked if Dadda would marry her!!! Little did she know that two years later to the day that would become a reality.
The following morning Mumma got up to get ready for work and found Dadda still awake waiting to chat some more; it was 1 am in the morning in the US but he was keen to talk to his newly found ‘friend’. It was then that Dadda decided to explain his situation; he sent Mum a photo! He was in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the chest down following a car crash in 1993. He expected Mumma to depart at that point, apparently that is the usual thing that happens with 2Foots. Mumma being Mumma was not deterred! She was always ready for a challenge and knew that soul connections are not not easy to find and you hang onto them when they come into your life (like me, I knew she was my Mumma before I even came down here and I’m not letting go of her or Dadda).
From then on, Mumma and Dadda spoke every day. Mumma introduced Dadda to my 2Foot Sisters and they got on wonderfully. A few weeks later they planned a trip across The Pond so my 2Foot family could meet up in person for the first time.
In August, Mumma and the girls left for a 10 day visit to the USA. They had never been to America before and prior to meeting Dadda my Mumma had not even heard of Minnesota; the land of 10,000 lakes with beautiful sunny summer and snowy, cold winters. That first trip was amazing!!! They formed the rock solid bond that lasts to this day.
Over the next almost two years Mumma and Dadda spoke nearly every day! My 2Foot sisters and Mumma made many trips across the Atlantic to visit Dadda; seven in total! Mumma had to apply for a visa…..twice!!! Mumma also needed permission from my 2Foots sister’s biological dad to allow them to leave the UK. As I said in the beginning, there were many challenges and many hoops to jump through! But Mumma soon came to realise that everything happens when it is meant to and that everything had its own unique divine timing and in the end it all worked out perfectly.
The one thing my Mumma has always done is to be very focused when she wanted something; when the desire was strong enough she never lost sight of her dreams and her goals and always made things happen successfully. For many, many years she was not even aware that she was doing this, it just came naturally. It was not until a few years ago that she realised that other 2Foots called this process the ‘Law of Attraction!’ We 4Foots know all about this process of remaining focused, positive and believing that you can achieve your dreams, and my Mumma is a lot like us in this way. Many times other 2Foots asked Mumma what ‘Plan B’ was if things didn’t work out in her quest to get to the US. She always said that there was not a plan B because Plan A was the only option she wanted.
In May of 2010, Plan A happened!!! The girls and Mumma moved to the USA. They slowly built themselves a life here, established a home, built friendships and relationships with 2Foots and 4Foots. There have been challenges, periods of adjustment, feeling homesick and family illness but they never lost sight of the light at the end of the tunnel, which of course is ME coming into their lives. If Mumma hadn’t crossed the big pond with my 2Foot sisters, me finding her would have been a real problem. It all worked out because because Mumma chose to follow her heart and her dreams and here I am!
Live life to the fullest, develop those dreams and make them come true. My Mumma is living proof that you can live ‘the American Dream’ with your ‘Prince Charming’! And, of course, with every American dream comes the obligatory set of 4Foots, in this case one of them is a cute and somewhat wobbly, but extremely handsome Tuxedo cat!!!
Tippy love and hugs for a meowtivated and prosperous day!
